Barnes through these videos.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT? WHAT DO I WEAR?
Barnes’ Myofascial Release is a whole body treatment approach which ideally is done using direct contact with the skin, often in cross hand releases. Therefore it is preferable that you are comfortably undressed. For females this means you wear your underwear pants plus a bra or loose tank top. Males wear boxer shorts. Your posture will be evaluated. You lie on a comfortable massage table.
Movements include various pressures of sustained hands-on releases held a minimum of 90 seconds, gentle stretching, compression, rebounding and facilitated unwinding. Cranial-sacral type releases also are included. Sessions last approximately an hour including discussion, treatment and follow up discussion.
At BodyMind Awareness the massage table now is topped with a Professional Amethyst BioMat. This is a FDA approved medical device. Benefits include increased circulation, improved immune system, stress reduction, increased toxin removal and pain relief – all through infrared energy. No harmful alternating current is used.
SO WHAT IS ”FASCIA” REALLY?
Fascia is a continuous web-like structure found throughout your body and includes a micro-fascial system within each cell of your body. Fascia interconnects all the structures of the body (such as veins, nerves, the lymphphatic system etc.). There are two types of fascia fibers: tough collagenous fibers and stretchable elastic fibers. When restrictions or adhesions develop they affect the fascial system by causing thickening, hardening and increased pressure and binding down the system. This results in pain or other symptoms which may result anywhere in the body due to the fact that the fascial system is continuous throughout the entire body. Most of the body’s soft tissue is muscle. “Myo” means “muscle”. And all muscle is enveloped by and ingrained with fascia. For this reason “myofascial release” is the term given to the techniques that are used to relieve soft tissue from the abnormal grip of tight fascia. By energetically connecting to the fascia, the fascial restrictions- and often associated cellular held memories- are released to facilitate the healing process. Only this Barnes’ method treats the entire myofascial complex, eliminating pressure caused by the restricted myofascial system that creates the straight jacket effect of the pain or other symptoms.
